The power of a real, intimate story.

The need for connection is what connects all of us humans. The profound need to be seen, to feel recognized and loved, to trust. This is what makes us all equal in our diversity. And this is why I started this project. I am interested in the core of what makes us all alike. I want people to listen to raw, unfiltered memories of other humans telling the story of their click moments, when love sparkled or ended. Moments of deep emotion, sadness, joy, loss. We are all vulnerable when it comes to raw emotions, and if we just listen, if we take away the fear from the equation of our lives, we realize how stupid hate is. This is why I love audio, and anonymity, to cut the bias away, as much as possible.
Barbara Sbrocca
There are 35 audio portraits so far, from 35 conversations that Barbara had in Italian, English and Spanish with people from different countries. Why these 3 languages? Because those are the languages Barbara speaks/comprehends, hence she can edit and create the audio portraits. The goal is to have audio portraits in many more languages, with the help of those who want to make the project grow.
Voices are anonymous. Names, professions and nationalities don’t matter here. Each audio is an invitation to hear the story of the person, their feelings, their struggle, their emotion, beyond any bias. When we free ourselves from prejudice and fear, we are again capable of seeing and feeling another human being.
Each audio portrait begins with the sound of the ocean. Water is a pillar of the project as much as the red irregular shapes of the “baci”. Water unites all the continents, water is where every human was born from, water is what we are mainly made of.
This is why the permanent installations stand beside moving water, river or sea. Always in a freely accessible place.
Listening to another person is a way to resist isolation and nurture our common humanity.
Now, take your headphones, sit comfortably, and listen to another human share their story. The first audio portraits are in Italian, the latest mainly in English.
A few are in Spanish.
